Greetings Friends, Family, Fellow Sewists!
I'm currently still on maternity leave, and loving every moment of being home with my little girl, who just turned 3 months Saturday 🥲
Although I haven't really done any sewing since having her (barely took out my machine last week) I am truly saddened to hear of the demise of Joann's Fabric. I have been a faithful shopper since my preteens.
In light of this sad news I wanted to post a comprehensive list of my personal favorite places to purchase fabric and notions. Some are probably a given (like Amazon and Hobby Lobby) others you may never have heard of before. All of them I've purchased from over and over again having nothing but positive experiences.
So if you working on a project and don't know where to go, I've got a list!

This was my Covid go to for cotton licensed prints. It's a quilt shop so just cotton, fat quarters, and panels, what I think is cutexis its, a small business so your dollars are really making a difference.
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/
Some of you may be aware that Amazon purchased Fabric.com probably around Covid. At the time I was all for it because free shipping, but they ended up shutting down the website and integrating it into its Amazon search engine. What does that mean? Well Amazon does have some amazing fabric deals and selections, but you kind of have to dig through their individual vendors to find it. That said make sure to read all return policies before placing an order.
I've also purchased a little of bulk sewing notions no problem and have a short list of recommended products I have used and love. https://amzn.to/3q2C84x
BBlack & Sons: https://www.bblackandsons.com/
This is more for tailoring, they sell high end wools plus whatever else you need to make excellent suits. It's a little pricy, but totally worth it if you're going to take the time to sew a custom suit anyways.
Debs Lace & Trims: https://debslaceandtrims.com/
Unfortunately they do not offer international shipping and just like in the name they only sell lace and trims.
There's a lot of sellers on Ebay, but this is one I've used over and over again. Specifically to purchase knits and spandex. I also find and buy a lot of my vintage patterns on Ebay. Purchase with caution, read all descriptions and make sure you're familiar with return policies.
These are the two lace sellers on Etsy I purchased my wedding dress lace from. Everything was beautiful and arrived on time. 5 stars, highly recommend! I've also purchased vintage patterns here. Again because Etsy uses individual sellers shop with caution and read all descriptions. I've been catfished by fabric sellers in the past who refused to make it right.
Fashion Fabrics Club: https://fashionfabricsclub.com/
What's nice about this website is they sell fabric in bulk. You can still buy single yards if bulk isn't your thing so never fear. Tgey have a huge warehouse with different types of fabric, so I'm betting they'll have exactly what you need for your next project.
Here's a video of me opening up some fabric from this shop!
Guggenhein: https://www.guggenhein.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoqJwuYhrQv4p4vqFkeGeh-Uh-jXQ-26P25sdPYdyXzbX8gyN3__
If you're curious about the shears I use it's Guggenhein, I also found these during Covid and was a little skeptical at first, but now I love my Guggenheins and have an entire set. https://youtu.be/alEPy0Dmonw?si=zhIDx_smNOcuUmRW
Here's my review video of if for those interested.
P.S. I also like Gingher shears
Pretty much goes without saying, Hobby Lobby is the best!! I like to most of my shopping in store I buy a lot of my trims from here, specifically lace because you can see it in person.
M&L Fabrics Discount Store: https://mandlfabricsdiscountstore.com/
Unfortunately this is not an online store but if you're ever in Anaheim CA this is a must stop. I've spent soooo much money here, favorite fabric shop of all time. Think rows and rows of cotton flats. They also carry specialty fabrics and trims as well. It's a must stop!
Michael's Arts and Crafts: https://www.michaels.com
The in-store products may be limited, but their online selection isn't too bad. It may not be the best for fabric but they do carry limited notions. What they do have that stands out is an excellent ribbon selection.
Everybody whose seen Project Runway ought to know Mood, I love that all their fabrics, threads, zippers and such have the same color names, making it easy to match color when ordering online. They also have videos on their site showing the drape and movement of their fabrics, you can sign up for notifications for when an out of stock fabric will be back in stock, or email them about it abd they get back to you right away. Also they offer free patterns on their website that you can download and print at home.
Rebsfabstash: https://www.rebsfabstash.com/collections/batik-fabrics
Also quilting site selling just cottons. I've ordered from them multiple times, great source for quilters.
Tulle Shop: https://www.tulleshop.com/
They sell bulk wedding supplies, I've only purchased tulle from them, they sell it in bulk which is nice when you need a ton of tulle.
Walmart: https://www.walmart.com/
I like to buy my interfacing by the bolt which really saves you money in the long run. They also have a limited fabric and notions area.
Wawak:https://www.wawak.com/
Best website for online notions, thread, and other sewing supplies. I actually purchased my male dress form from here. They have a flat rate shipping of $5.95 for orders under $99 so I recommend waiting until you have a big order otherwise that can really add up.
And there you have it! My favorite places, if there's a place you really like feel free to comment so I can check them out too!
