It happened a dress: Mystery Sewing Box Challenge Week #16

Updated: Jun 18, 2020

We're getting closer to the end *cries* this weeks dress is a little Bridal number inspired by the Great Claudette Colbert from It Happened One Night. If you haven't seen this movie you need too! Its a delightful little romcom your sure to enjoy! Anyways, at the end of the movie they put Claudette Colbert in this beautiful Empire wedding dress, which really shows off her cute little figure, and was the inspiration for my dress.

The Fabric: So I started off with a knit fabric of some sort (no label this week) the fabric is really unique because it has a geometric pattern of some sort that reminds me of stain glass, although the entire thing was white. I had 2 1/4 of a 45 inch width fabric. I know it seems like a lot of yardage, and compared to some of these challenges it is. But that's still very little when undertaking a wedding dress, I knew I was going to have to cut out the train, just not enough fabric, but I was okay with that.

I pulled out my Empire block, which I for whatever reason for got to size.

I don't know why I do these things to myself. I'm just going to assume its a size 8. I used my block to draft the bodice, and my sleeve block (also missing its size) to draft my sleeve. The skirt I straight up just winged it. I would never recommend this approach but sometimes I'm lazy *ahem* I mean experienced *wink* haha.

As it is a white dress, and a formal at that then it needed to be lined. Fortunately I had just enough interlock to the line the whole thing. Which means No Cheating This Week Y'all!!!! I'm pretty proud of myself for that! I laid out the pattern pieces, and snip, snip, then I laid out the skirt, aannnnd once again eyeballed it (spoiler, it came out lol)

Then I got to serging all those pieces together, once I was done I put in an invisible zipper 22 inch which came out of my zipper haul filmed last year.

All that was left was to hem (using a double needle of course) and then Voila!!! All done!

As always I've included pics of the finished piece WHICH!!! Is available in my shop. Soooo scroll up to the very top of the page, click shop, and Bridal, or Formal!
